Have someone take a photo of you from the side, then email that photo yourself.
Create a "paper cut out" of your inner self (your fear setting) on 8x10 blank canvas. Turn in as a JPG or PNG
Take a photo of your profile (side of your face)--> Send that photo to your email
Then take that photo, place it in illustrator, and trace it using the PEN TOOL.
Once you've traced the silhouette of your head and neck, then take the techniques you used below to create a 3D/paper cut out version of that shape.
In that shape, using fonts use one word in the cut out of the face. This can be a word describes WHO YOU ARE or a word that describes your year you're having. Make sure you're including color, gradients, changing opacity, adding/creating shapes. Use the pathfinder, shape tool, etc,. to make this happen.
Make sure the background color ends up being a color that matches your color scheme of your silhouette.
Turn in as a PDF or JPG.
Students will design a self-portrait in Adobe Illustrator using a personal photo as reference, applying layering techniques, depth, and cut-out effects to create a stylized composition that includes expressive color choices and a descriptive word embedded into the design.
I will use my own photo as a reference to create a stylized self-portrait using Illustrator tools.
I will apply layering techniques to build depth and organize elements in my composition.
I will create a cut-out effect by using clipping masks, shape building, and negative space.
I will select and incorporate a meaningful word that reflects my identity and embed it visually into the artwork.
I will use color intentionally to enhance mood, personality, and emphasis within the portrait.
I will practice using Illustrator tools such as the Pen Tool, Layers Panel, Clipping Masks, and Type Tool.
I will reflect on how visual choices (color, shape, type, and composition) communicate meaning about who I am.
