Students will learn the art of family portrait photography, focusing on applying composition rules, professional posing techniques, and storytelling. They will practice running a family photo session as though they were working with a client, gaining commercial photography skills and creating compelling, emotive images.
I will apply composition rules such as the rule of thirds, balance, and framing to create professional family portraits.
I will learn posing techniques that work well for family sessions, ensuring everyone looks natural and comfortable in the final images.
I will practice directing a family photo session, managing the shoot professionally from start to finish, as if I were a paid photographer.
I will develop my communication skills, directing clients and encouraging them to interact and engage to capture genuine moments.
I will focus on storytelling, capturing images that reflect the unique relationships, emotions, and personality of each family.
I will use lighting effectively to enhance the mood of the family portraits, applying both natural and artificial light where appropriate.
I will organize and edit the photos in a commercial manner, refining them to a professional standard that would be suitable for client delivery.
I will reflect on how the photos I take tell a story, considering how I can express the bond and emotions of the family through composition, poses, and the environment.
I will manage time and equipment efficiently, ensuring a smooth and professional workflow throughout the shoot, from setting up to final delivery.
